Nancy Meyers Inspired Home

We have all seen them and desperately fallen in love with them. Something’s Gotta Give, The Father of the Bride, The Holiday. With the charming homes she creates, and that perfectly imperfect style that makes you feel as if you’ve known the characters for years, movie director Nancy Meyers captures the essence of her characters through her effortlessly curated movie sets. “And that’s exactly what our client wanted!” says designer Lynne Lawson. “She wanted her home to reflect that lived-in style that Nancy brings to her movies.”

Our client planned to renovate the entire first level of her home and had put much thought into how she wanted it to look and feel. The challenge: how to execute it. “Since she wanted her home to feel lived-in with every piece carefully selected, yet effortless, we chose a lighter color palette to brighten up the home, layered with some dark accents, natural wood tones, and subtle patterns to create a home that draws you in,” says Lynne.

“We began by adding a faux-linen slip-covered sofa, which is a staple of Nancy Meyers movies. We paired it with two accent chairs in a subtle stripe fabric to create that coastal grandma style. We finished it with black end tables and a white built-in shelf to display accent pieces.”

To open up the dining area, the wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed. This created more light and allowed for a long dining table with more seating. Instead of choosing one large chandelier, Lynne went for the less expected option, two chandeliers. “Lighting is the jewelry of a home, so I always like to do something different with it. We selected two gold-leaf chandeliers in a light frame so they would balance the room without being too visually heavy.”

For seating, deep teal velvet mid-century modern side chairs create a contrast against the natural wood tone on the trestle table, and two host chairs are covered in a navy blue, sage, and gold Ikat pattern. “The natural lighting in this space is incredible! It makes you want to have brunch here and linger in the company of family and friends,” says Lynne reflecting on the finished design.
