Greenspring Hallway

A hallway should never be overlooked, especially one central to a home’s flow. This space, visible from the front door, was transformed from plain to luxurious. Contrasting black and cream floors, soft white walls, gold and black furnishings, mirrors, and a stunning chandelier create a striking, modern classic look.

Greenspring Hallway

A hallway is not just a passthrough. It’s not to be overlooked, forgotten or neglected. Especially this hallway, in this immense home. The hallway was easily seen from the front door. On the east wing, it was the main path for family and guests to enter the kitchen (hangout area), family room, sunroom, dining room and powder room. It had a major role to play in the look and feel of the home. This one was unfurnished and unadorned.

We wanted to create striking contrast with the gorgeous black and cream porcelain floors. The immediate concern was the vanilla-ish walls. We drenched everything:  walls, trim, etc. in our favorite soft white. With the 11’ ceilings, lots of beautiful wood trim, lots of coffers, and limited space between entrance ways and doors, proportion was key to the selection of furnishings. On the wall visible from the front door, we started with a stunning “tunnel” console table in black and gold leaf. Striking lamps with black base and block accents and black shades accent the space. Our clients found an amazing, huge (extremely heavy) mirror with a gold leaf beveled “river” accent. On the opposing wall, we added layered black and gold accent mirrors, to reflect the main wall, and visually expand the space. A delicate gold and black velvet bench is actually useful seating. At the far end of the hallway (the entrance to the master suite and the office) we added a small mirrored and gold chest, with textured wall décor and a stunning gold leaf lotus chandelier. Mirror, black, velvet and lacquer, gold leaf…. luxe and luscious.
