Modern Villa Dining Room

Location: Kensington, MD

Project Overview:

A large rectangular dining table, with a light grey top and white lacquer pedestals anchors the contemporary dining room in a transitional home. Dark grey velvet side chairs, and peacock velvet host chairs with chrome bases, provide maximum seating. A black lacquer cabinet, topped by sleek buffet lamps and a round mirror with antique black mirror accents add storage and contrast. White and soft peacock and silver accented window treatments warm the space.

Modern Villa Dining Room

A new home, recently renovated. A nearly empty dining room, with only a rickety, black, pressed wood bar cart. A wife who loved contemporary clean lines and only gray and white, in a home with transitional architectural elements, and a husband who loves color. An empty dining room next to a sleek, newly renovated gray and white kitchen, and a recently decorated living room. A requirement for seating for 8, due to planned entertainment of a large local circle of friends and family. These were the design considerations for our clients’ dining room. The challenge was how to create a dining room with sleek contemporary elements which blended splendidly with the traditional elements of the home.  And to make wife and husband happy.

We started with creating a floorplan to squeeze as many people into the room as possible, while still allowing a walk space between the kitchen and living room.  Having the table and host chair move somewhat into bay window allowed us to have seating for 8.  Our color palette would be white, grey, black and peacock blue.  We chose a large rectangular dining table with a light grey top and large white lacquer twisted pedestals. Six sleek grey velvet side chairs with chrome nailhead, and two peacock velvet host chairs with chrome bases, gave us ample seating.  A large polished nickel chandelier, with tall crystal “icicles” is the Diva in the room.
