To Decorate or Not to Decorate Around Old Furniture
Homeowners often ask decorators to work around their existing furniture. This is never a problem – unless the clients admit an immense dislike for their current furniture. That was the case when a young professional couple asked for help from their decorators. What made the situation even worse was that this sad family room was the first thing to be seen from the front door.
The husband was skeptical, but once these decorators (Lynne Lawson and Laura Outland) assured him that they could provide a reasonably priced design that would achieve the couple’s goal of a “Model Home” look, and were presented with a 3-D rendering of how the room would appear with the furniture, colors and patterns that the decorators were recommending, the husband quickly said, “Let’s do it!”
The bold Ikat fabric in teal, warm gray, and brown chosen for the windows set the fashionable tone for the room. To make use of its vast length, the room was divided into two seating areas. On one side, along with a pair of light gray lounge chairs, is a simple and moderately priced sectional sofa is a sleek mid-tone gray woven fabric with solid aqua pillows.
Contemporary dark gray wing chairs and an x-base bench behind the sectional provide a welcoming sight from the front door.
